To make it easier for employers and individuals to follow, qualifications within all the main career pathways in the UK have been structured according to specific levels of learning. Beginning with Level 1 being the grade for basic or foundation levels of understanding and skills, advancing to Level 2 as the required amount of skills, knowledge and understanding gets greater, and on to Level 3 as the qualification requires more complex knowledge and skills, and so on, right up to Level 8.
